On 31 March, Haringey Stars are holding a showcase concert in Tottenham at 7.30pm. The concert will feature young musicians, MCs and singers from the local area. Admission to the concert is free, although seats are limited.
Details of the venue can be found here.
The event will also feature designs from local young fashion designer Loren Kis – herself a former student from the Haringey Star Search project.
For the past few months, Haringey Stars have used funding from Haringey Council and Capital FM to put on free music workshops for young people. Through these sessions, they have had the chance to learn new instruments and music skills whilst working towards the free public concert.
John Zavuga, the Coordinator of the Haringey Stars project, said: “We really hope that the community will take a interest in this concert and get behind what we’re trying to do. The idea behind Haringey Stars is that through an interest in performing arts, young people can develop other skills and attributes, such as confidence and leadership skills, that will benefit them in all aspects of life.”
One member of the project is Ray Kalema, 17, from Tottenham. He will be performing in the Showcase concert and explained: “The best thing about the workshops is that you learn how to work together. It helps to keep children out of trouble doesn’t it? It gives them something to do instead of just hanging around with nothing going on. People should come along to the concert so they can see a group of young people from this area getting together and doing positive things.”
The Stardom Factory Showcase Concert takes place on 31 March at 7.30pm.
